No excuse for Maguindanao massacre
There's no way anyone can ever defend or justify the inhumane Maguindanao massacre.
It was more than enough to take the lives of innocent people in your hands, and I can't find an adjective to describe the character of the people responsible for this.
If I remember it right, I only had a bad experience with a Muslim brother once in my entire life. When my mobile phone was stolen from me a year ago, I found out that the person who had my phone bought it from a Muslim guy who apparently buys and resell stolen phones. I didn't actually take it against him because at least he was fair enough, to pay for it in the end.
And that didn't amount to what happened to Maguindanao victims.
As a journalist by heart (and somehow by profession), my heart was broken when I learned that almost half of the victims were 'kapatid sa hanap-buhay'. I know how much effort mediamen put into their work to deliver the news, from the reporters, down to the cameramen and even drivers.
Imagine a life without news, or just with the thought that you won't be informed of the essential things in life.
At mass I set aside my personal prayers and ask God to do everything in His power to comfort the families of all the victims, and to help them find in their hearts the courage to get through with this tragedy.
The Maguindanao massacre as I see it is not about power. It has nothing to do with 'governance' because that word to me is close to public service.
What happened was evil, for only those blinded by it can do such a thing.
No excuse, just no excuse.
