Day 1: Shonda Rhimes

I wanted to do something for my blog for my 24th birthday that I haven't done before. Last year, I wrote about the 23 things that makes me, ME. And I feel that this year should be something more unique than the past.

When June arrives, its either I'm the happiest or I'm emotional. And today when I woke up, I kind of didn't realize at first that it was already June until I checked the time on my phone. And the idea of making 10 blog entries before my 24th birthday hit me. A countdown of sorts.

So I need to write 10 entries about random things.

I was telling my friend Kathy about it, and I told her I already know what the 10th entry will be. And she told me I was like Shonda Rhimes (background: She plans Grey's Anatomy's Season Finale first before planning everything else). Thanks to her, I have a topic, Shonda Rhimes!

Now this is the real countdown entry. Game!

We all have our own idols, people we look up to and admire. We look forward to meeting these people even if it is a very long shot.

I love Shonda first, for creating Grey's Anatomy. The series is just amazing and though there may be ups and downs, the 'voice' was consistent from Season 1 to this day. And I believe that's because of Shonda. Unlike other series, Shonda's way of thinking is unpredictable and spoilers are most of the time wrong.

When Shonda writes, every word has a meaning and every detail is there for a reason. Sometimes, even the characters' clothes had meaning.

I love Shonda because she created Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). Fans of Grey's Anatomy know  how these two grew together as friends and how they matured into adults. When I watch them, I'd always wished I had my own Mer or Cristina but that's another story.

Shonda Rhimes also wrote Princess Diaries 1 where Sandra Oh played the role of a school principal (I don't know if that has something to do with Sandra's stint on Grey's.)

If I had to list my Top 10 fan moments, Shonda's answer to my tweet will make it either to the top or second spot.

Thanks to Twitter to,   meeting your idol is not a long shot after all.

Grey’s Anatomy Season Six Finale

Note: Please don't read this if you haven't seen the finale.

The whole season six of Grey's Anatomy to me is about Meredith growing up and being all whole and healed. She, in every sense, was able to resolve her dark past with her mom and dad and we see that because she was suddenly Lexie's big sister, she was the Chief's understanding wife, she was sort of everyone's person. Before Alex and Izzie decided to part ways, she's the friend who called Izzie to tell her her husband might be moving on. Mer is the same sister who told Alex to make the thing with Lexie a thing. And four seasons ago, we'd probably find her in Joe's drowning in tequila. (That reminds me, we haven't seen much of Joe's bar lately).

Watching Mer grow up, I find that somehow she dreads being a mother, because hers is not the conventional one. Her mom would leave her roaming around the hospital, her toys weren't make-up kits but suture kits, her doll isn't Barbie but Anatomy Jane, and then her mom once told her she was nothing but ordinary. But now it's different, she was actually happy about being a mom.

But she lost the baby, and Mer standing up to operate and say, "I'm having a miscarriage", boy, that one's for the books! We see an adult Meredith because she went above and beyond her own miseries for her people.

And there was Cristina, what is Mer without her, right?

As Shonda Rhimes says in their blog, it was Cristina's graduation. She's dealing with her own miseries but when she saw her person's husband dying, she snapped out of her own to be the surgeon that Mer and Derek needs her to be. I love their friendship and I love that Derek acknowledges that (giving her a room of her own).

Cristina is all whole and healed too. And the best thing about that, she and Mer went through it all together.

That's all I can say for now. I need to breathe and live the moments again. The moment when you see Alex longing for Izzie, the way Izzie looks at him when she's about to die, when Lexie chose Alex in front of Mark, when Teddy let go of Owen, when Bailey stopped and watched someone die.

This is by far the best season finale ever, the next challenge for the writers is how to create something better than this.
